Small Talk

Dialogflow includes an optional feature called Small Talk, which is used to provide responses to casual conversation. This feature can greatly improve a user's experience when talking to your agent.

There are two ways to implement Small Talk and both allow you to fully customize the responses.

Enabling for an agent

In three clicks, you can enable Small Talk for your existing agent.

  1. In the left menu, click on Small Talk.
  2. Click on the switch to Enable.
  3. Click the Save button.

You can now try this out in the test console on the right. Try asking basic, general questions or making casual statements.

Customizing responses

Small Talk can be customized to fit your branding or product needs. Each response category is ogranized in folders.

Clicking on one of these folders will open the list of responses and you can enter customized answers to the related questions.

Import the prebuilt agent

Small Talk also comes in a prebuilt agent form. This is imported as a new agent, which you can further develop to meet your needs.

  1. In the left menu, click on Prebuilt Agents.
  2. Scroll down to Small Talk and click on the tile.
  3. Click on the Import button.


You can customize the imported prebuilt agent like any other agent, as you have access to all of the intents and their Training Phrases, actions, and responses.
